Collybia maculata

Flammulina velutipes

Grifola fondosus

Lyophyllum decastes

Marasmius oreades

Mycena monticola

Mycena overholtsii

Omphalina fibula

Small cap & stem white spored mushrooms on forest debris or grass.

SHAKE TEST (WHICH DISTINGUISHES THE 2 GENERA)To distingush the genus Marasmius, what we call the "shake test" is applied to one or two specimens. Grasp the mushroom by the base of the stem and shake the mushroom back and forth a few times. Most types of mushrooms, the stem will break and the cap will go flying, but the tough stems of the Marasmius genus all hang tight to the caps, and especially in the case of M. oreades, you can give the mushroom quite a good shaking and it will not fly apart.

There's more info on the shake test in our educational trunk
