ACindex/Cortinarius traganus
|
|
This mushroom is the reason NOT to eat purple Cortinarius. It is really bitter when cooked, despite a mild smell and a superficial resemblance to C. alboviolaceous. Note that C. traganus has brown flesh. This field character will quickly separate it from C. violaceous, with dark purple flesh, and C. alboviolaceous, with light gray or lilac tinged white flesh.
