Hygroconicus

Also known as the witches hat, this shows up in the fall and sometimes spring. I have seen them get quite big, six inches or so tall. They seem to be pretty nontoxic.

Hygrophorus agathusumus - the marvelous almondy floral aroma of this mushroom is nothing like its awful taste. There are a variety of smelly Hygrophori out there, like H. bakerensis which is featured here somewhere.

A big white bland and waxy Hygrophorus ponderatus is just the thing to eat before hibernating, especially if you are a bear. A lot like the early spring bear snack H. subalpinus, this mushroom can make any meal more boring.

There are several photos of this beautiful apricot to flesh toned mushroom. It grows with spruce, and has a wonderful refreshing smell which is really not appetizing. Cooking will verify this perception.
