Mycena
These small usually fragile fungi are found on moss beds, rotting logs, and in the duff. They will not sustain the "shake test" used to distingush them from Marasmius mushrooms, instead they fly apart easily. Many Mycenas are important brown rot fungi. There are hundreds of species reported from North America.

Mycena overholtzii
These tiny Mycena monticola are found growing in the duff, where their salmon pink color is unmistakable. Usually it is too dark to photograph them there, however.

Mycena epipterygia, the yellow-stem Mycena.
