Lactarius
These milk-producing mushrooms are very similar to the Russula, which are "dry."
Lactarius zonata
Note the concentric "zones" that give the bullseye appearance. White latex and way too hot to eat.

Lactarius olympianus

Lactarius affinus

Lactarius alnicola

Lactarius fumosus

Lactarius hypomyces

Lactarius piperatus

Lactarius torminosus

Lactarius volemus

Lactarius nocater atrovividis

Lactarius kauffmanii
Both the cap and stem have a lubricious, almost viscid feel. The latex is like skim milk. Not considered food.

Lactarius fallax
The smoky, almost velvety cap texture and matching stipe color and the copious white latex make this a distinctive species. They are peppery and not considered food.

Lactarius trivialis
Collected under dry conditions. Zonate orange cap and white latex make this a member of a group of similar zonate cap mushrooms and synonms including L. olympianus, L. zonatarius, etc.
Lactarius sp. are important ectomycorrhizal partners for conifers. Not eaten by humans.
