Clitocyboid
This gaggle of Clitocyboid fungi were found in a burned riparian zone, mostly spruce and aspen. They turned up a couple times in the Alaska burns, always in groups, in a loose arc perhaps, sometimes following a log. Spore print white.
This is Clitocybe gibba, a diminutive member of the genus, usually found on moss covered logs it has decomposed. Note the stipe is not enlarged at the base like C. clavipes.
Clitocybe nebularis
This common mushroom in Missoula lawns and under conifers often forms a fairy ring. Note the watermarks on the cap. It has a skunky aroma. Some people like to eat it. I don't. You have to cook it until it is about crispy for me to consider it any good. Save the butter.
